E-Comm is proud to announce that its Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) System Build and Service Readiness Project has received the 2026 Project of the Year Award from the Project Management Institute (PMI) Canadian West Coast Chapter.
The award was presented at the PMWest Annual Conference and Awards Night in Vancouver on November 5, recognizing the project’s excellence in delivery, innovation, leadership, stakeholder engagement and long-term organizational value.
The Project of the Year Award is the chapter’s most prestigious honour, recognizing outstanding achievements in project management across British Columbia and Yukon. Submissions are evaluated by independent judges against rigorous criteria for project excellence.
A major milestone for emergency communications
The award recognizes the significant work involved in preparing E-Comm and its emergency service partners for the transition to NG9-1-1, Canada’s next-generation emergency communications system.
Since the project began in 2022, the team has navigated significant challenges, including funding uncertainties, global supply chain disruptions and the financial difficulties of a key technology supplier. Through collaboration, adaptability and perseverance, the team continued to advance this critical transformation.

The work involved designing, building and extensively testing the NG9-1-1 system to support multiple emergency service organizations, with more than 5,000 test cases completed. Just as importantly, the project established the processes, capabilities and operational foundations needed to support the technology into the future.
The team’s contributions also extended beyond the project itself. After identifying a gap in pre-production NG9-1-1 testing, E-Comm helped coordinate a joint submission to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), advocating for a national testing environment to help strengthen the reliability of NG9-1-1 services across Canada.
A shared achievement
Delivering a transformation of this scale takes expertise, commitment and collaboration across many organizations and disciplines. The success of this project reflects the dedication of teams across E-Comm and our emergency service partners, whose contributions have helped lay the groundwork for the future of emergency communications.

E-Comm extends its sincere thanks to everyone who played a role in this important work, from technology development and testing to operational readiness, project management and implementation.
Congratulations to everyone involved on this well-deserved recognition and an important milestone for the future of 9-1-1 in British Columbia.
