Social Media Terms of Use

These are the official Terms of Use for engaging, and communicating, with E-Comm 9-1-1’s social media accounts. The Terms of Use are subject to change without notice. E-Comm 9-1-1 reserves the right to moderate, delete, or otherwise restrict content and user comments and access, including by blocking users from E-Comm 9-1-1’s social media accounts, without notice, for any violation of these Terms of Use.

These accounts are not monitored 24 hours a day and monitoring across our accounts vary in frequency. You should not report emergencies to our social media accounts.

If you are experiencing an emergency, dial 9-1-1. We do not take emergency reports online. If you want to report a non-emergency matter, please contact your local police agency. For a list of non-emergency phone numbers within E-Comm 9-1-1’s service area, visit NonEmergency.ca.

E-Comm 9-1-1 uses social media to share information, promote public safety awareness, and engage with the communities we serve. We welcome respectful dialogue and encourage constructive engagement.

By interacting with our social media accounts, you acknowledge and agree:

  • To the Terms of Use.
  • All content posted on our platforms is subject to public disclosure.
  • Comments or content shared by the public do not reflect the views of E-Comm 9-1-1, its staff, or the communities or agencies to whom we provide service, nor do they imply endorsement by the organization.
  • Engagement with or sharing of third-party content (e.g., likes, follows, shares) does not imply endorsement.

Because social media platforms are managed by a third party, social media accounts are subject to downtime that may be out of E-Comm’s control. E-Comm accepts no responsibility for platforms becoming unresponsive or unavailable. Social media platforms may post or display links or ads for other websites. E-Comm is not responsible for the information found through these links or ads and does not endorse the sites and their content.

Submissions and comments including the following types of content, without limitation, are not permitted:

  • Discriminatory, hateful, racist, or harassing language or content
  • Offensive, profane, vulgar, sexually explicit, or otherwise graphic language or content
  • Personal attacks, or material that promotes violence or harm
  • Threatening or harassing comments directed at any individual or organization
  • False or misleading information, including repetitive or spam-like posts from one or more than one account
  • Content that includes personal or private information (e.g. names, phone numbers, addresses, photographs, or health/criminal/employment history)
  • Content that is off-topic or unrelated to the original post
  • Material that may interfere with or compromise public safety, emergency communications, or E-Comm 9-1-1’s operational integrity
  • Posts or comments containing links to external websites
  • Copyright-infringing material or content that violates intellectual property rights
  • Content supporting or opposing political candidates or campaigns
  • Impersonation of others or false representation of affiliation with E-Comm 9-1-1
  • Content that violates any laws or regulations, or that supports or would constitute a criminal offence or give rise to civil liability

Users are also subject to the Terms of Use of the individual social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram).

The personal information you post may be collected by E-Comm 9-1-1 under s. 26(c) and 26(e) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act for the purposes of engaging and consulting with the public. To protect your own privacy and the privacy of others, please do not include any personal information including phone numbers or email addresses in the body of your comment or in private messages to us. Please do not share personal information about others, including pictures. You acknowledge that the social media platforms E-Comm 9-1-1 operates on are collecting your personal information as described in your user agreement with those social media platforms.
